Six Weeks to Go

With less than six weeks to go before race day, I just realized that I have a follower! I shall start posting immediately. I started this journey with intentions to post everyday, for myself mostly, but got so busy with training and life in general that I didn't get back to what I had set out to do, until now.

Actually, to be honest, my first post on my first blog was also posted before my first run. Enough said? I can sometimes be a little over ambitious and set out for my first run with all these ideas in my head about what I could post on my blog and what an inspiration I could be to someone else. Thinking about all those ideas got me through my first run but my first run did not go as I had expected. First of all, I waited until after 11:00am to start my run = reality check #1...although it's September, it's still hot. Secondly, I had underestimated the cardio involved to do the run I had planned = reality check #2...I was seriously out of shape. And lastly, I was left asking myself, "My training booklet said I had to run how many minutes???"

After two months of training I can honestly say that I am my own inspiration. I have to inspire myself before I can help anyone else. I have gone from barely running 1 minute and gladly walking 3 to actually running 2 minutes and walking 3. I went on a run with my husband this weekend and somehow in the middle of our run our interval counter (or we) got off track and we didn't realize until almost the end of the run that we had been running 3 and walking 2 for most of the run. Surprisingly, it felt really good and I now know that I can run for 3 minutes straight! I know it doesn't sound like much to seasoned runners but that is a huge improvement for me! I am loving this journey that I started and I'm ticking off those miles as I go.

The Beginning

Today was my first day of "training". Basically getting my sneakers on and getting out the door. This is my first time blogging so it is going to take a while. I'll post more later, along with some pictures!
